Michael Karpik
Michael Karpik has over 25 years of retail operations, management, and merchandising experience while working his way up through the ranks to become president of Bigsby & Kruthers, a seven-store men's clothing chain in the Chicago area. He was also president of The Knot Shops, a 43-unit chain that operated nationally in major enclosed malls and central business districts, as well as operational responsibility for the retail store in the Michael Jordan restaurant on Chicago's North Side.
Mr. Karpik had primarily represented both retail landlords and tenants in the city and suburban markets of Chicago. He is currently working on the national expansion of Chernin's Shoe Outlet stores and expansion of US Cellular and Rosin Eyecare corporate locations in Chicagoland area. He is also currently working on representing landlords in several multi-use retail/residential developments in Chicago.
Utilizing his extensive retail background, Mr. Karpik assisted Zales Corporation with a 17-store roll-out of a new, strip center format store in the Chicago area, and Chernin's Shoes with its 25 store roll-out throughout the Midwest. He has also transacted leases with such other retailers as Continental Furniture, Oreck Home Care Centers, and Calypso Women's Apparel. Mr. Karpik has had direct involvement and responsibility for the disposition of 77 locations for Quality Stores, Inc., a liquidated rural farm and feed retailer; the sale of the 150,000 square foot former Sterling Casting plant in Bluffton, Indiana; and the sale of Berkshire Foods, debtor-in-possession, real estate and operating assets.
Mr. Karpik is an authority in retail merchandising and has been quoted in national publications. He is a member of the ICSC and the Turnaround Management Association, and is a participating member of several professional organizations.
